Who is Sarasota Santa (aka Santa Bob)?
I fell subject to the “Santa clause” in 2019 and immediately joined the International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santas, IBRBS, bought a quality suit, boots and accoutrements, and never looked back. The members of the IBRBS and the wealth of Santa knowledge on the web were my mentors. In 2020, I joined the Palm Tree Santas, our local chapter of the IBRBS, and I began to seek out the knowledge of other professional Christmas performers.
To date, I have attended two Santa Colleges, and professional theater training:
* International University of Santa Claus – Class of 2021
* Worldwide Santa Claus Network – Class of 2022 & Class of 2023
* Adult Improv w/ Spencer Cross: an 8-week course offered by Venice Theatre (community theater)
I have also attended three workshops:
* Palm Tree Santa workshop, August 2021, a three-day workshop led by Jeff “Santa Mac” McMullen, a former Ringling Brothers Circus clown and a world-famous Santa.
* CPW Tune-up & Turbo Charged, August 2022, a three-day workshop led by Robert
Seutter, aka Santa True of Christmas Performers Workshop (CPW), and also a
world-famous Santa.
* Palm Tree Santa workshop, August 2023, a three-day workshop led by Jeff “Santa Mac” McMullen, a former Ringling Brothers Circus clown and a world-famous Santa.
I am a professional Christmas performer. I am not a seat cushion Santa; by that I mean I do not simply sit in a chair while parents take photos of their children with Santa; I entertain and interact with the children. I have many tricks up my sleeve to ensure you get a memorable photo of your child, no matter how Santa or camera shy they may be.
I am continually learning, studying, and expanding my knowledge of Christmas lore, as well as perfecting my performing skills. In 2022, I made my acting debut in a community play. My role was Judas the betrayer. Talk about a role reversal. HoHoHo. I had an awesome director, who coached me in the fine art of acting. Bear in mind that the previously mentioned Santa colleges and workshops also focused on aspects of the performing arts. I work all this knowledge into every appearance; I am first and foremost a professional Christmas performer who finds immense joy in portraying Santa Claus.
My goal is to always be an exceptional Santa.
